Learning and Career Center
The Learning and Career Center at the Central Library currently provides over 16,000 one-hour sessions of computer time to the public every month. The library system offers free Wi-Fi at all 34 libraries (see "Wi-Fi Access" under our "Services" link).
There are 58 computers for public usage. All of the computers have Internet and Windows 7 with Microsoft Office 2010 with applications in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher. All of the computers have CD/DVD ROM and flash drive access. The CD drive is read-only.
The Learning and Career Center is primarily for the benefit of our adult patrons. Teens have first preference in using the computers in the Teen Center on the 3rd floor. The computers in the Children's Department located on the lower level are reserved exclusively for children 12 years and younger.
Patrons using the public computers are capable of working with minimal help from the staff. Persons who want an introduction to computers and basic computer instruction may attend the free computer classes offered year-round in the Learning and Career Center where beginner classes as well as a variety of software applications classes are available.
The computers shut down 30 minutes before the library closes each evening, allowing patrons time to print documents prior to closing.
